Service Description

Our Art for Seniors Program is designed for older adults ages fifty-five (55+) and older to come together paint in a relaxed atmosphere with great company to receive step-by-step instruction. No experience is necessary, and it’s always a casual, no pressure environment , do it at your own pace, and get your creative juices flowing. Our focus is to provide valuable community-based learning/healing experiences for our seniors. This art program provides practical, theory-building foundations for art therapy with older adults. Regardless of past artistic experience, art therapy is an effective means of providing therapeutic care to older adult. In an overview of non-pharmacological approaches to healing, our art therapy program has been described as a treatment expected to improve the cognitive functioning of older adults by stabilizing emotions. ZMAG instructors will share their professional artist backgrounds and expertise with a body of creative knowledge, techniques, and development in activities broken down into four major components: • Creating different styles of art and development • Responding to and making judgments about the properties and qualities that exist in visual forms • Acquiring knowledge about the contributions artists and art make to culture and society • Understanding the nature, meaning, and value of art
